The Workshop on Formal Linguistics (WFL) is a periodic international event held in Brazil that brings together work in formal linguistics (syntax, semantics, morphology, pragmatics, phonology, and interfaces) by researchers from Brazil and abroad. The event also promotes minicourses, roundtables, and lectures by world-renowned scholars in the field. In 2024, in its fourteenth edition, the WFL will be held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and will take place between the 3rd and 7th of June. The event will pay tribute to Ana Lúcia Müller (full professor at University of São Paulo - USP), founder, more than twenty years ago, of WFL and an important Brazilian semanticist.
Between June 3rd and 4th minicourses will be taught by professors Ana Müller and Loise McNally. Between June 5th and 7th, the oral and poster presentations, roundtables, and lectures will take place.
Submission instructions:
We invite abstract submissions for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion) and/or posters on any topic on formal linguistics, such as:
* Formal Phonology
* Formal Morphology
* Formal Syntax
* Formal Semantics
* Formal Pragmatics
* Grammar Interfaces Issues in a Formal Approach
* Formal Linguistics contributions to Education and Learning
As well as interface phenomena (syntax-semantics, syntax-prosody, morpho-syntax, morpho-phonology, semantics-pragmatics, lexical semantics, language acquisition, language change, language processing, etc).
All abstracts should be anonymous, written in English, with no more than two pages long (including examples and references), in A4 format, with 2.5 cm margins, single-spaced, and with font size 12pt (Times New Roman). Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per author, or two joint abstracts per author.

(i) for a talk only;
(ii) for a talk or a poster; or
(iii) for a poster only.
