The 55rd Annual Conference on African Linguistics will be held at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from May 2-4th, 2024. ACAL welcomes papers on any area of African Linguistics for paper or poster presentations. Paper presentations will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions. The conference will take place in person, with limited options for remote participation (see below).

Abstract Guidelines
Abstracts should be submitted in English and must not exceed 500 words, including any data, figures and tables. References are not included in the 500 word limit. Non-English language data should include interlinear glosses following the Leipzig Glossing Rules.
The 500-word abstract should be single-spaced and in a Unicode font no smaller than 11 point, and in .pdf format.
Submission Instructions
Submissions are limited to two per author, with at most one paper being single-authored. The submission should be anonymized as to not reveal the identity of the author(s). All abstracts must be submitted online through easyabs. Should you have any problems submitting your abstract through easyabs please contact [email protected].
Notification of acceptance will be in mid-December 2023.
To accommodate the presenters who are unable to attend the conference in person, we plan to organize a limited number of remote sessions. To indicate your preference for the remote format, please fill out the Presentation format field in the submission form. We will further confirm the mode of the presentation with the accepted presenters.
Please note that in order to present a paper or poster at ACAL 55, you must be a member of the Association of Contemporary African Linguistics (ACAL). To pay ACAL membership fees, please go to the ACAL organization website. Membership fees are collected by the ACAL organization, not the conference organizers.
