The sixth Arabic Linguistics Forum conference will be held at the University of Vienna on Wednesday 3rd-Friday 5th September 2025. As in previous years the aim of this international conference is to provide a forum for academic and scholarly exchange on the linguistics of the Arabic language family, for researchers from across Europe and the Middle East, and beyond.
The Arabic Linguistics Forum welcomes the submission of abstracts in all areas of Arabic linguistics: phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, morphology, dialectology, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, historical linguistics, language acquisition, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, and applied linguistics.
Submission instructions:
Abstracts for both full papers and panels should be written in English. References and/or figures may optionally be included, but should not exceed two pages of A4 (or US ‘Letter’). Please submit your abstract in pdf format.
Your abstract must be anonymous. You will be asked to submit a version with your name and affiliation on it if your abstract is selected for presentation. Please make sure that you do not use your name in the filename for your abstract, and please erase or anonymize any details which might identify you in the file that you submit. Please use one word from the title of your abstract as the filename.
Individual papers:
Individual papers will be allotted 20 minutes for the presentation with 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Panels:
Thematic panels, roundtables or workshops should follow the 30-minute structure of the conference and last for not more than 3 slots (90 minutes). Every panel will count with a 20-minute Q&A and discussion section. Therefore participants will have a maximum of 70 minutes to present their contributions. This time can be divided as the panel convenors see fit. Although the number of participants is not limited, we have a strong preference for shorter, focused events (e.g. an introduction, 2-4 papers by different contributors, and a conclusion/discussion). Panel convenors are expected to organize and submit one full proposal. This proposal includes the overall aims and rationale of the event (max. 500 words) as well as the short abstracts of 200–300 words for each contribution. Please note that panel convenors take active responsibility for the quality of all contributions and are expected to guide their invited participants through the formal process as well as to chair the panel.
Deadline for submission of the abstracts is Febuary 2nd, 2025. Selection and acceptance of the papers will be communicated by mid March 2025. If you need and urgent confirmation or any kind of support (e.g. official letters, etc.) for visa purposes, kindly write us an email letting us know. The abstracts of the accepted presentations will be published in the abstract booklet of the conference. Kindly send an email to [email protected] if you require any further information regarding abstract submission.
Submissions open: Oct. 30, 2024 - Feb. 2, 2025
Abstract review period: Feb. 3, 2025 - March 15, 2025
