II International Symposium on Language Ideologies and Attitudes (Ideoling2)

Oct. 7, 2026 - Oct. 9, 2026

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the International Conference on Language Ideologies and Attitudes (IDEOLING), which will take place at the Universitat de Lleida, from 7th to 9th October, 2026.
Building on the success of the inaugural symposium, IDEOLING 2026 aims to continue fostering interdisciplinary dialogue around the study of language ideologies and attitudes, encouraging contributions from sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, discourse analysis, education, and related fields.
We are delighted to confirm our invited plenary speakers for this edition: Rob Lowe [Ochanomizu University], Nicola McLelland [University of Nottingham], Joan Pujolar [Universitat Oberta de Catalunya] and Nicos Sifakis [University of Athens].

We welcome contributions on (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Perceptions and ideologies towards language variation and change, including translanguaging and code-switching, effects of social categories like gender, and classroom approaches on such perceptions
- Effects on language use on ideologies and identifications, including linguistic insecurity, register shifting, and attitudes toward standard/non-standard varieties
- Language ideologies and attitudes in educational contexts, such as teachers’ or students’ stances toward language diversity and translingual practices
- Heritage speakers’ language attitudes and ideologies, such as family language policy, maintenance, brokering, and intergenerational transmission
- Ideologies behind language policy and planning, including revitalization strategies, standardization, and political discourses
- Epistemological and theoretical perspectives on language ideologies and attitudes (e.g., tensions between structure and agency, critical realism)

Registration fees are 120 euros for students and 220 euros for non-students. These are early bird fees; after 15th July the fees will be 160 euros for students and 260 euros for non-students.
