The sociolinguistics conference aims at examining how social factors such as social classes, regional differences, gender, age, etc. may impact the use of a language. In our case, regional belonging and kingdom filiation serves as the norm for desdaining or vualuing a linguistic vaiety. This situation create lingistic insecurity in low-status varieties where speakers fall into hypercorrection, confirming to some extend Labov's theory, except that in our case the norm is oral as we made a sociolinguistic survey in oral Bantu tradition society.
This conference will take place as part of The Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics in conjonction with the Linguistic Society for America (LSA).
