UKLVC is a biennial conference that showcases international research on language variation and change, sociolinguistics, and dialectology, as well as applications of these branches of linguistics to a variety of different fields. We seek to foster diversity in theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of language variation in all of its forms and across a wide range of linguistic and cultural contexts.
We welcome research on spoken and sign languages. The languages of the conference will be English and British Sign Language (BSL).
For any questions about accessibility at the conference, please contact the organising committee at the earliest opportunity via the conference email address.
Submission instructions:
Abstracts are invited for papers (stage presentations and posters) on original, unpublished research related to the study of language variation and change. We welcome submissions from scholars based in the UK and internationally; research does not need to be restricted to communities in the British Isles.
Written abstracts should be no more than 500 words long, and a maximum of 1 A4 page of text. References, glossed/transcribed examples, and images can appear on a second page and do not count toward the word limit. Abstracts should be submitted as PDF documents and be fully anonymised.
Signed abstracts should be no longer than 5 minutes, including title and author name(s), and use either BSL or International Sign. Please put a YouTube link or a link to a video in an accessible folder (e.g. a GoogleDrive folder) into a PDF and submit this instead of the written abstract.
Authors may submit as many abstracts as they like, but only one of which may be sole-/first-authored.
All submissions will be anonymously reviewed
